After the great success of our first edition, we are thrilled to welcome artists and audiences back to the beautiful Brandbau for the second edition of Jazzorwhatever!?. This year, we’ve worked hard to elevate the experience, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Get ready to immerse yourself in a vibrant celebration where jazz flows seamlessly into classical melodies, fuses with contemporary beats, and explores the dynamic realms of electronic soundscapes. Expect an eclectic mix of smooth tunes, bold rhythms, and cutting-edge sounds that promise to delight and inspire.
Co-curated by John Wolter and Mateus Wojda, this edition of Jazzorwhatever!? bridges generations and genres, offering a fresh and exhilarating journey into the world of jazz in all its colorful variations.
Dutch saxophonist and composer Kika Sprangers creates music that balances vulnerability and strength. Her sound blends unorthodox instrumentation with dynamic contrasts, shifting from silence to symphonic grandeur without cliché. Recognized as a leading talent in Dutch contemporary jazz, she has earned numerous awards for her work as a composer and bandleader.
Sonic Hug - Louise van den Heuvel
Louise van den Heuvel is a Dutch bassist and composer known for blending modern music technologies and effect pedals in her compositions rooted in the contemporary electronic/jazz scene. Founder of the Belgian trio Dishwasher_, she has collaborated with renowned artists and now leads Sonic Hug, surrounded by three leading musicians of Belgium’s new jazz generation. Her own creations expose themselves as elaborated melancholic songs filled with elegant grooves, crystalline vocals and experimental jazz excursions.
Àbáse
On a quest for cosmic grooves of unity, Àbáse is the imagination of Hungarian producer and keyboardist Szabolcs Bognár. Creating an exquisite blend of jazz, West African, Brazilian, hip-hop and electronic music, he set to release his second album Awakening in collaboration with Analogue Foundation in summer 2024, demonstrating a deep understanding of music’s ability to cross time and geographic boundaries, conveying a message of unity, dialogue and self-reflection.
Emile Londonien presents Inwards, their second album, showcasing the group's growth and evolution. The project nods to the UK jazz scene and artists like Ashley Henry, CHERISE, and Kazy Lambist while reaffirming their role as pioneers of the new French jazz movement. Featuring esteemed guests such as Laurent Bardainne, Jowee Omicil, and Léon Phal, the album highlights Emile Londonien’s unique ability to blend broken beat, house, jazz, and R&B in a singular way.
VAAGUE
Brussels drummer and producer Antoine Pierre blends acoustic and electronic sounds in VAAGUE, his solo project launched in 2020. Inspired by Thom Yorke, he uses sensor technology to craft immersive, genre-blending music. Following acclaimed EPs and key collaborations, his debut album Oktopus Mekaniks (2024) fuses bass music, dub, jazz, and drum & bass with deep grooves and hypnotic textures.
